Michael B. Gellis MD is a performance driven healthcare professional with 47 years experience as a practicing Plastic Surgeon and is a Nationally Licensed Surgical Assistant. Dr Gellis maintains medical licenses in 25 States across the United States. His specialties include Body Contouring and Awake Tumescent Liposuction. For the seven years prior, he served as Chief Medical Officer of a national company with numerous outpatient surgical clinics. He is an exceptional leader with expertise in the skills of interviewing, on boarding, and training prospective surgeons. He was a member of the Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Committee, which reviewed statistics from all surgical procedures. As well we a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

In 2018, Dr. Gellis, performed over 180 Body Contouring cases throughout the United States. He was an invited guest speaker to various National and International Meetings, with over 150 days traveling to operate and teach, as well as 150,000 air miles flown for company business.

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology and Pre Medicine from University of Michigan. He then obtained his Medical Degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and then completing his residency in Plastic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. He has published over 100 papers concerning a variety of surgical and medical topics, some of which you can view HERE.

Dr Gellis is a fully trained Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with expertise in: congenital deformities, wound care, wound repair, burn care, skin grafting, facial trauma, skin cancer, cosmetic and reconstruction of the breast, body contouring procedures, facial cosmetic surgery, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, fat grafting and hand trauma.

Dr. Gellis served most recently for seven years as the Chief Medical Officer in charge of safety and surgical training for Sono Bello, a national company, where he was responsible for training new physicians at various clinics throughout the United States. In this position, his duties included educating, writing Blogs, publishing research, and traveling to all the clinics for quality control concerns. Additionally, he assisted with appointing new physician hires, proctoring current physicians and assisting with further development of the professional services for Sono Bello. He helped to grow the company from 10 clinics with 34 physicians to 41 clinics with 151 physicians located in 40 states. Dr. Gellis developed a comprehensive on-boarding program to train new surgeons in the art of awake body contouring and facial cosmetic surgery according to the methods, standards and practices of Sono Bello. He worked closely with major plastic and cosmetic medical societies on behalf of Sono Bello to share the organization’s knowledge and experiences. He developed standards of practice to which all physicians associated with Sono Bello must adhere. The underlying goal was to provide the same level of excellence regardless of which Sono Bello facility or which surgeon was utilized. During his tenure with Sono Bello, he traveled on a weekly basis to the various clinics to train, mentor and educate physicians and nursing staff. This included performing surgery when a clinic was short staffed and also to perform revisions when necessary. He wrote and regulated safety policies for the company, including  participating in OSHA, blood borne pathogens, risk management, sexual harassment, workplace violence and fire safety.

Previously Dr. Gellis served as an Associate Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where he trained residents from the Plastic Surgery Program and also the Providence Hospital Residency Program. He taught cosmetic, reconstructive and hand surgery, as well as business and office management to the residents.

He also served for 11 years as Chief of Plastic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, which is a Level I Trauma Center with 1100 beds on one campus. In this position, Dr. Gellis supervised 26 plastic surgeons and oversaw the development and construction of a six bed outpatient surgical suite dedicated to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Ophthalmology and Hand Surgery.

Also, during that time he maintained a private plastic surgery practice for over 25 years in Royal Oak, Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, while concurrently sustaining a boutique practice in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
